La prima affermazione dell’Italia in questa stagione la firma Elia Viviani. Il velocista della Quick Step Floors ha trionfato nella terza tappa del Tour Down Under battendo Phil Bauhaus della Sunweb e il leader della classifica generale Caleb Ewan della Mitchelton-Scott. Il ciclista italiano è riuscito grazie ad una poderosa rimonta a vincere la tappa rimontando tutto il gruppetto che ha innescato la volata. Una bellissima prestazione questa di Elia Viviani che oggi ha dimostrato a tutti le sue grandi doti da velocista puro. In quarta posizione ha chiuso Simone Consonni della UAE Team Emirates che ha chiuso davanti a Peter Sagan. Grazie a questa vittoria, Elia Viviani è balzato in seconda posizione dietro a Caleb Ewan.
