E’ Louis Oosthuizen l’attuale leader dell’Open Championship di golf che si sta disputando all’Old Course di St Andrews, in Scozia

Si annuncia un finale veramente emozionante ed incertissimo nel 144° Open Championship, il terzo major stagionale che si sta disputando sul percorso dell’Old Course (par 72) di St. Andrews, a Fife in Scozia e che si concluderà insolitamente di lunedì, a causa dei ritardi provocati dal maltempo. La classifica è profondamente cambiata e sono al comando con 204 (-12) colpi il sudafricano Louis Oosthuizen (67 70 67), l’australiano Jason Day (66 71 67) e il sorprendente amateur Paul Dunne (69 69 66), 22enne irlandese di Dublino, assoluto protagonista della giornata. Non è stato un turno favorevole a Francesco Molinari, unico italiano rimasto in gara, che è scivolato dal 50esimo al 74esimo posto con 216 (72 71 73, par). Dopo tanto vento, la calma piatta ha favorito i punteggi bassi e, soprattutto si è prodotta una classifica molto corta, con numerosi concorrenti in grado di poter prevalere. E’ risalito prepotentemente Jordan Spieth, da 14° a quarto con 205 (67 72 66, -11) e quanto mai determinato a entrare nella storia. Infatti con un successo salirebbe in vetta al world ranking, rilevando il nordirlandese Rory McIlroy fermo ai box per un incidente alla caviglia che gli ha impedito nell’occasione di difendere il titolo, ed emulerebbe Ben Hogan vincitore nel 1953 dei primi tre major stagionali, unico a riuscirci, mettendosi anche in condizioni di fare “grande slam” nella stessa annata nell’ultimo major, il PGA Championship (13-16 agosto), e in questo caso eguaglierebbe Bobby Jones (1930). Nella sua corsa Spieth non avrà l’ingombrante presenza di Dustin Johnson, che in pratica si è defilato cedendo la leadership e precipitando in 18ª posizione con 209 (-7). Sono invece in odore di titolo anche l’irlandese Padraig Harrington, quinto con 206 (-10), Zach Johnson, Robert Streb, gli australiani Adam Scott e Marc Leishman, lo spagnolo Sergio Garcia, gli inglesi Danny Willett e Justin Rose, il sudafricano Refief Goosen e un altro dilettante, lo statunitense Jordan Niebrugge, sesti con 207 (-9).
